International “Basics of ENT Practice” Training Course

Course description


This two-day course aims to deliver a practical, yet comprehensive update on the management of common problems in ENT. Through lectures, demonstrations, and workshops, this course provides some key factors in identifying and treating a number of common ENT disorders as well as when a referral to an otolaryngologist should be considered.

Target audience


This course will be helpful to Primary Care Physicians as well as Junior Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Audiologists, and other Physicians treating patients with ENT conditions (General Medicine, Paediatricians, A&E, ENT, Geriatricians, Plastics, Maxillo-Facial Surgeons, and Senior Medical Students)

THE 18th GRAMPIAN GP DIABETES SCHOLARSHIP COURSE (2016)


 

The Postgraduate Department of General Practice Education and NHS Grampian Diabetes Managed Clinical Network are once again pleased to offer up to nine places on a scholarship course in diabetes care, comprising a series of workshops, shadowing attachments, personal learning and project work over a 9-month period.  The workshops and clinical attachments will consist of a mix of whole-day or half-day activities totalling 13 half days.  The costs of delivering the course will be met by Diabetes Service Endowments Funds. In addition, participants will be offered a bursary of £600 from accrued course funds, to contribute towards the costs of time out of practice etc.  Workshops will be held in Aberdeen on occasional Fridays from February to June and projects will be presented within the group on a Friday in October or November. The course will commence with a full day introductory session on Friday 29thth January.

 

 
    GPs are invited to apply by e-mail or in writing to the address below, including
    300 words on how the applicant would see the scholarship improving patient care
    within her/his own practice/area of work as soon as possible. Applicants will
    be informed of the outcome in early December.

Minor Surgery in General Practice

This practical surgical skills workshops is ideally suited to all primary care team members: GPs, GPSI’s, GP registrars, GP Trainers and Practice nurses involved in basic surgical procedures.

The Primary Care Surgical Skills Course provides hands-on experience using synthetic and tissue models, videos with practical tuition from experienced tutors. It will utilise online pre courses learning material to maximise time spent on practical activities.

 

Programme Includes:

  • Safe usage of surgical instruments
  • Punch biopsies, shaving & curettage
  • Local aneasthetic infiltration
  • Elliptical excision of simple lesion
  • Excision of Epidermoid Cyst
  • Excision of Lipoma
  • Dressing/post op care
  • Wound Closures with:- Interrupted sutures, Vertical mattress suture, Inverted Interrupted suture and Continuous subcuticular suture
  • Joint Injection to Knee Elbow, Shoulder and Wrist
