(A WARM WELCOME TO ABERDEEN) GP SALARIED\PARTNER VACANCY AT DANESTONE MEDICAL PRACTICE

ABERDEEN

Aberdeen has been voted the happiest place to live in the UK.  Not a surprise when you consider access to some of the most magnificent scenery in the country.

Aberdeen is a lively, cosmopolitan city located in North East Scotland, famous for its beautiful architecture and as a gateway to Scotland’s spectacular mountains, castle and whisky country.  Since the 1970’s, the city has been the hub of the UK’s energy industry and has enjoyed a high quality of life and low unemployment.

The city offers a great range of opportunities with its vibrant sports and social scene, its cultural events calendar and its world renowned research and education institutes. People are attracted to the area because of the sheer breadth of its leisure choice. Walking, climbing, ski-ing, golfing are all available nearby and the coast offers vast empty beaches, interspersed with picturesque fishing villages and dramatic cliff top scenery. A fantastic range of first class restaurants combined with a thriving cultural calendar and shops galore, all help make Scotland’s third largest city a great place to live.

Danestone Medical Practice

"Danestone Medical Practice aims to provide excellent family healthcare, using the resources of a dedicated team to serve the whole person in a friendly caring environment."

History

Danestone Medical Practice is a small practice of 5,000 patients, serving a suburb of Aberdeen which sprang up following the oil boom of the Eighties.  Most of the houses are less than 25 years old, almost all owner/occupier with a high percentage of young families with children. It is a young community in every sense and we strive to play our part in the "growing up" process.  There is also a significant number of elderly in nursing homes and supported accommodation.

The practice started in 1986 with a very small number of patients in the house of a solo GP Dr Ewen, who resigned in 1991, and Doctor Peter Kiehlmann took over a list of 1800 patients. The practice list size continues to grow steadily.  Over the last 24 years we have built up a highly skilled mix of professionals from many disciplines all working from purpose-built premises in the heart of the community.

"Working together, caring for your health" is part of our logo because we consider it is important for people to take responsibility for their health and so patients work together with staff to care for their health. Staff place emphasis on working together as a team, so that the patient receives consistent advice and information, and we keep each other informed and up-to-date at weekly team meeting and regular training afternoons. Teamwork involves taking time to develop shared plans, which include the patient, in making decisions both day-to-day in their own individual care and long-term for the practice and community.  Caring is an important aspect of General Practice and we try to keep a balance between caring for the individual as well as practising modern medicine.

We try to ensure an excellent standard of care for all our patients and to continue and develop a strong, effective multi-disciplinary team.  We aim to be supportive, considerate and encouraging to both patients and staff.  We try to listen to our patients, put their ideas into action and patient surveys indicate we achieve high ratings across a wide range of indicators.  We have excellent QOF achievements and we provide a range of enhanced services.

The practice uses the EMIS computer system and makes full use of the Electronic Patient Record.  All consultations are on computer from 1997, we scan incoming hospital letters and have computer links with hospital laboratories.

We are an established Training practice and since 1996 we have been teaching students from the first four years of the new Medical School Curriculum, with regular teaching sessions to early years and 4 week attachments in the later years.
