Here at Northfield and Mastrick Medical Practice we are celebrating! We have 3 new doctors starting with us over the next 2 months. As a practice we had been struggling to recruit for quite a while. What made the difference? Well, here are some of the things we think have helped…
We came up with a Vision for the practice, to be“One of the leading Practices in Aberdeen City for innovation and new concepts, ensuring high quality patient care with the right person, doing the right job, at the right time.”
We are working hard to achieve this vision and have reviewed the staffing skill mix in the practice. The vision spelled out the ethos of the practice so that folk knew that they would be coming to a practice with a big emphasis on team working and that that team will include non-traditional members such as third sector organisations and the council.

We got that vision out there. There would have been no point in having a vision if no one knew about it! We told anyone who would listen what the vision was for the practice. We asked for help from Vicki to write our adverts. We sent out adverts to everywhere we could think of, including every deanery we could find an email address for! We attended the Careers Fair and the Career Start Fair.
We made shiny information packs to give out, detailing some of the exciting work we have been doing at the practice in elderly care and sexual health as well as pointing out the benefits of working in a deprived area of the city and also the benefits of working in an NHS practice. It probably helped that we were passionate about the work we do in the practice too.
